How we analyze the retirement component of your financial plan
What does retirement look like for you? When do you want to retire? At what standard? Will you live in your current location or do you think you’ll move elsewhere? Will you want to leave money to heirs and is there a special charity that you would like to support through your estate?
Although we have a framework, there is no cookie cutter process. We want to have an intimate understanding of your situation and one question will lead to another, so the questions we ask are often unique to your situation.
Your current situation
The next step is to understand where you are today. What is your tolerance for risk? What assets do you own? What debt do you carry? Will you be funding college education and for whom? This only scratches the surface of the questions we ask, but you get the idea.
Finally, we layer prudent assumptions over the life of your plan, such as inflation, investment return assumptions, pre-retirement goals, and the time until retirement to determine the funds that need to be saved to reach retirement goals, objectives, and dreams.
Then, we start investing: The Sampson Insight Advantage™
Once we learn all the details, we can put it to work for you and will create a long-term wealth management plan and relationship.
The circles above represent some but not all the investment accounts we can manage for you. Many investment advisors, when constructing a portfolio for a client, put the same investments in each account, effectively making every account look the same. This can be a disadvantage by increasing overall trade costs and making it more difficult to be tax efficient.
We call what we do the Sampson Insight Advantage™ because we manage funds on a household basis allowing us to make the best decisions for reducing taxes and trade expenses while keeping the appropriate allocations for the overall portfolio.
